PRACTICE COACHING
FOR ASPIRING MUSICIANS
Bach Buddies provides accomplished musical coaches for your budding musician,
virtually or in your own home.
These coaches will help your child or adolescent to practise effectively in a fun and structured way. As they are still musical students themselves, Bach Buddies understand the day to day challenge of learning an instrument and mastering difficult musical skills. They will also be able to mentor and inspire your child or adolescent toward greater musical development and appreciation. They are not, and do not replace, primary teachers, but rather support and supplement regular teaching. Our Bach Buddies are all highly accomplished young performers that are hand selected for their musical abilities, performance experience, and practice proficiency.

WHY WE STARTED BACH BUDDIES
In our family, we all started playing the violin and cello when we four and five years of age. We were too young to practise on our own, and so we all practiced with our mom. Having 3 children studying music, my mom spent so many hours attending our lessons, taking notes, and practicing with us. This was hard on my mom because it took up a lot of her time on top of her work. It was also hard for us as children. First, my mom did not play the violin or cello and so she could not help us with technical issues beyond what she learned from observing lessons. Second, my mom did not have much time to spend with us outside of practising with each of us. Third, sometimes there was tension and conflict in our relationship with our mom because of her role in trying to get us to practise and to do so effectively. We were like most children in that we did not want to be coached by a parent.
We all appreciated the difference in our family and in our practice sessions when we started working with coaches. We then had variety in practising on our own, with our mom and with a practice coach. We found it inspiring and instructive to learn from an older student who played the same instrument. We learned strategies for learning that have been helpful in our progress. We looked up to the coaches and were more motivated to improve.
As a family, we have decided to create Bach Buddies because we would like to be able to help other students and families with the struggles of practising. Music has been such an important aspect of our lives, and we would like that to be true for others as well!
